Wells Real Estate Funds Adds More Than $800 Million in Real Estate in 2008

January 29, 2009 by

The investment portfolios of Wells Real Estate Funds, one of the nation’s top real estate investment companies, acquired more than $830 million in office properties in 2008, covering more than 3.2 million square feet.

Despite the tightened commercial real estate market, Wells acquired more square footage than the year before, when Wells portfolios purchased more than 2.6 million square feet of office space.

“The credit crisis triggered a sharp drop in transaction volume in commercial real estate, particularly in the second half. Despite that, we managed to have another good year,” said Leo Wells, president and CEO. “We’re known as a low-leverage buyer of office properties – and that worked to our advantage in a tight credit market.”

Restaurant Spotlight: Sandy Springs’ Nori Nori

January 26, 2009 by

Who thought a buffet could be so light and fresh?  I sure didn’t.  Typically, I dread buffets, especially during the lunch hour, because I am usually left feeling like a stuffed pinata.  But not at Nori Nori.  Their buffet was not only satisfying and filling but I did not have the urge to take a nap – this is critical when you still have 4-6 hours left in your workday!

Sandy Springs’ UPS Vies for DHL’s Customers

November 12, 2008 by

Minutes after DHL announced Monday it was ceding the U.S. express mail market, UPS’s sales force — more than 3,000 strong — swung into action.

1-800-PICK UPS — the call center for Sandy Springs-based UPS, the largest U.S. air and ground carrier — lit up. And the “Welcome Center for DHL customers” on UPS’s Web site started popping.

DHL has spent more than $10 billion since 2003 trying to build a U.S. air and ground network and customer base.

UPS wants “more than its fair share” of DHL’s customers, said Gershenhorn.
