How Should Sandy Springs Spend Over $500,000? You Decide

January 24, 2009 by

The City of Sandy Springs has begun preparing its 2009 Annual Action Plan under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Sandy Springs Citizens may present ideas to the Mayor and City Council on how the city might use its 2009 CDBG funds at a public hearing on Tuesday, February 3. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

The City received $540,875 in 2008 CDBG funds and anticipates receiving approximately the same amount in 2009. More information on this program can be found on the City’s website, www.sandyspringsga.org.

Where’s My Car? Sandy Springs New Online System

December 17, 2008 by

You have had a long, hard day at work and you just want to drive home in the peace and quiet.  But wait a minute.  You don’t see your car – did you park it some place different and forget?  Or was it stolen?  Maybe it was towed?  Now, Sandy Springs citizens and Sandy Springs visitors can go online to http://ga.towedcar.com to locate towed vehicles.

VINS-enabled communication between the SSPD and the city’s contract tower, A Tow, will allow 24×7 towed vehicle recovery and eliminate the requirement to visit the police station prior to retrieval at the storage lot. VINS will also lower SSPD officer workload through electronic towing reports and automatic dispatching of A Tow wreckers without Fulton County dispatcher involvement.

What’s FREE At Starbucks? VOTE To Find Out

November 3, 2008 by

Starbucks Coffee wants you to vote so much that they are willing to give you a freebie.

On Tuesday Nov. 4th, between 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., stop at your nearby Starbucks, whether you are in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Buckhead, or wherever, after you have voiced your opinion in this year’s election and receive a free cup of Java.

This is a great perk that you may need if your polling place has the typical long line (it is estimated that on Tuesday, polling line waits will be up to 5 hours in Sandy Springs and Metro Atlanta -uggh!) .  Really… you will probably need the coffee before voting but since it’s free, we won’t be picky.  If we could just get Chick-Fil-A or Panera Bread in on this, we would have a whole meal :-) .

Sandy Springs, Your Vote Matters!

October 27, 2008 by

If you are like me and have heard how there are over 800 people each day standing in line to vote before the Nov. 4th election day, then you may be curious and even a little stand-offish towards what Nov. 4th will actually hold.  Will it be lines and more lines with only a few computers for the thousands that will hope to make their voice heard?

In the last presidential election, I remember being in line for almost 3 hours and it did not have as much fanfare as this.   So if you want to beat the biggest crowd on election day, then take advantage of this week’s advance voting option:

HELP for First Time Home Buyers & Those Facing Foreclosure

September 12, 2008 by

More than 150 home builders, remodelers and real estate agents rallied at the state Capitol in late August to celebrate the housing legislation President Bush signed into law July 30.

“The housing stimulus legislation passed by Congress in July is an infusion of confidence that the financial markets need desperately,” said Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), a veteran of the real estate industry.

The law includes a $7,500 tax credit for people who buy their first house by July 1, 2009.

What the Housing Bill Means For Your Money, Part 1

September 2, 2008 by

Ready to purchase the lavish real estate in Sandy Springs and Metro Atlanta?  Well the rules to do so are changing quickly.  Stay informed and prepare yourself for the good, the bad, and even the ugly.

Adapted from Breaking Down the Housing Bill, Part 1 as published at http://scooparoundatlanta.wordpress.com/2008/08/20/breaking-down-the-housing-bill-part-1/

As with most documents the government produces, the housing bill that was signed into law in late July has raised a lot of questions from people much smarter than I.  So, I thought I would break it down as best I can specifically as it relates to current and future homeowners.
